Email sent out by TAMSIN BOOKEY (LBTH officer) on the 'Phase 1' applications states that the Local History Library and Archives will be shutting down for 2 months for "...decluttering and rearrangement of the reading room...to provide more desks and seats for readers."
The 'reading room' is the Carnegie Reading Room built in 1906 after a gift from the Scottish/American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie made Bancroft Library a
Carnegie Library.
The room opposite, originally part of the Vestry Hall, was until 2006 Bancroft's Lending Library.

JANUARY 20, 2010
BANCROFT LIBRARY STEERING GROUP MEETING. A week later than scheduled, this meeting was for Members to give their responses to the Bancroft Library Project plans (see December 2009 Steering Group Meeting.) However, planning applications for Phase 1 of the Project had already gone in.
